PDO Threads

What is it and how does it work?

Polydioxonone (PDO) Threads are a revolutionary development in aesthetic medicine. They are used to stimulate new collagen in the skin, giving a smoother texture, a brighter and tighter appearance and have also been proven to reduce pigmentation. As a result of the process the skin is gradually lifted and tightened to produce the desired effects. Although there are many types of threads, we use biodegradable materials which the body completely dissolves and removes. Whilst some threads are directly attached to the deeper layers of the skin to give an immediate pull and lift, others are placed in a specific form to stimulate collagen and give a gentle and gradual tightening and lift over 4-6 months.

What areas can threads be used to treat?

It is most commonly used on the following areas:

  • Jawline
  • Neck
  • Upper lip lines
  • (Smokers lines)
  • Lip line shape
  • Brow lift
  • Nasolabial folds

It can also be used to treat:

  • Nose augmentation
  • chin
  • Scars
  • Cheeks

Does it hurt?

At Dr Huw Jones’ Clinic, everything is done to make any discomfort minimal. Topical cooling with the unique CryoJet or numbing creams can be applied. Local anaesthetic injections can also be provided to further reduce discomfort in certain areas.

Can it be combined with other treatmetns?

Whilst threads alone produce fabulous results, it is also a great treatment to combine with others. PRF, HIFU, Dermal fillers and Botox are often combined with PDO threads to create the desired results.
